Playoff Series Round Up Quarterfinals!

Hello to all my followers sorry I’ve been away so long.  The playoffs in the Polish League are underway and we are playing every  couple of days.  This is a great time of the year the weather is finally beginning to get warmer and the sun is shining longer!  I want you all to take a look at my first video log wrap up of the playoffs quarterfinal round with some highlights to go with it.  I hope you enjoy this new feature I’m incorporating on the site.

MVP and Coach of the year – both from Zgorzelec

According to journalists and correspondents of the Most Valuable player of this year’s regular season of Tauron Basket Liga is Torey Thomas of PGE Turow Zgorzelec. And the coach of the year is Jacek Winnicki.

Quarterfinals of the Tauron Basket Liga are in full effect but has to give the readers a roundup of the regular season. In a vote done in four categories the journalists and correspondents of (they were not allowed to vote for the players from their cities) and commentators of TV PLK selected the best – in our opinion – players and coaches. And here are the results.

Most Valuable Players (MVP): Torey Thomas

Point Guard of PGE Turow Zgorzelec, second team of the regular season has been a true team leader. He always played to the maximum of his abilities and many times saved wins for his team. In the vote he was slightly ahead of Daniel Ewing.

They also received votes: Cameron Bennerman, Energa Czarni; Jerel Blassingame, Energa Czarni; Daniel Ewing, Asseco Prokom; Darrell Harris, Kotwica; Walter Hodge, Zastal; George Reese, AZS.

Best Polish Player: Filip Dylewicz

Trefl Sopot forward came back to Poland after a year break and his experience and skills in scoring were a great help to Sopot on their way of getting the 3rd seed after regular season. Former Finals MVP of our league came in first just a bit ahead of Polpharma Point Guard, Robert Skibniewski.

They also received votes: Igor Milicić, AZS; Robert Skibniewski, Polpharma; Piotr Stelmach, PBG Basket; Konrad Wysocki, PGE Turów.

Coach of the Year: Jacek Winnicki

Second seed after the regular season and a comeback to the top of the Tauron Basket Liga after a year of worse play gave the PGE Turow Zgorzelec coach the possibility to earn this honor. Winnicki had a strong competition, few votes went to the coaches of Energa Czarni Słupsk and Trefl Sopot.

They also received votes: Dainius Adomaitis, Energa Czarni; Karlis Muiznieks, Trefl; Zoran Sretenović, Polpharma.

Best Five: Daniel Ewing (Asseco), Filip Widenow (Asseco), Konrad Wysocki (Turow), George Reese(AZS), Chris Burgess (Zastal)

Sidenote: The best five of the league did not include the MVP or the Best Polish Player. This is a specificity of the voting, in the other categories just a few votes were enough to win, here that number was too small. In the best five of the season according to the journalists we see two players from Asseco Prokom Gdynia, one from PGE Turow Zgorzelec and two paint stars of AZS Koszalin and Zastal Zielona Gora. Right behind these players were Torey Thomas, Filip Dylewicz and Darrell Harris.

They also received votes: Cameron Bennerman, Energa Czarni; Jerel Blassingame, Energa Czarni; Mantas Cesnauskis, Energa Czarni; Filip Dylewicz, Trefl; Darrell Harris, Kotwica; Walter Hodge, Zastal; Nikola Jovanović, Anwil; Paul Miller, Anwil; Harding Nana, Polonia; Grady Reynolds, AZS; Ted Scott, Kotwica; Robert Skibniewski, Polpharma; Torey Thomas, PGE Turów.

I am working on computer graphics for 5 years now. In the beginning my work was only for personal use and then I started designing wallpapers and other graphics that were sports themed (work for My favorite type of design work is photo manipulation but for the past 2,5 years I have been much more into non-commercial work – mostly web design. I also work on creating logos and in the future I would like to expand my skills to vector design work.

About the wallpaper

Most of the sports wallpapers that I see are very colorful. I wanted to create something different without huge amounts of colors and insane effects in the background. In Sports you have to work hard to achieve something – that’s why the idea of this wallpaper was streetball like – no fireworks or colorful ornaments – Just Torey and Ball. And in my opinion basketball is a stylish sport, that’s why I kept it simple.

Gameday Round up #15 – Poznan at Turow

The last game of our 3 game week ended with a home game vs. PBG Basket Poznan. This game was extremely intense that finished with 2 thrilling overtimes. This game had great significance for both teams because with a win for Turow we would clinch the 2nd seed in the playoffs and with a win for Poznan it would help their chances in making the playoffs. The emotions were riding high on this game and it showed early it was certainly a defensive affair. The first half both teams played almost an equal match a bit sloppy but we were able to take a 1-point lead into halftime 36-35.

In the second half the game really didn’t pick up it’s scoring from both teams but the energy in the arena was electric for us. Poznan really made some key plays down the stretch and we needed to respond. Down 2 points with 20 seconds left in a scrambled play the ball ends up in my hands at the top of the key with two options shoot the 3 for the win or drive and dish for the an easier lay-up? So I drove the lane and dished it off to David Jackson for a high-powered one-hand slam-dunk to tie the game and send it into overtime! In the first overtime we traded baskets but Poznan again took the lead on a big 3-point shot by Sasa Ocokolijic. Down 67-64 with about 20 seconds left I come down off a side line screen and roll and let it fly and it hits nothing but net to send the game into double overtime! No team wanted to lose this game! In the 2nd overtime we took a commanding lead thanks to finding our 3-point stroke the Silent Assassin Marko Brkic connected on two 3-points and I also connected on two 3-points to ice the game.

Poznan was led by Piotr Stelmach who finished with 20 points and 9 rebounds, Damian Kulig with 10 points, and Grzegorz Surmacz with 9 points and 7 rebounds.

Turow was led by Robert Tomaszek with 12 points and 7 rebounds, Michal Gabinski with 3 points and 13 rebounds, David Jackson 12 points and 5 rebounds, Michael Kuebler with 11 points of instant offense off the bench, and myself with 22 points 10 assists, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds.

The Arena was rocking from the tip off to the final Buzzers!! Everyone was on his or her feet and it was extremely loud! The crowd has been great all season and they really give us an extra boost when they are into the game like this. Thanks for helping us secure the 2nd seed going into playoffs that means we have home court advantage for the first round games! One big game left at Sopot next week then the playoffs! Lets go Turow!
