Gameday Round up #15 – Poznan at Turow

The last game of our 3 game week ended with a home game vs. PBG Basket Poznan. This game was extremely intense that finished with 2 thrilling overtimes. This game had great significance for both teams because with a win for Turow we would clinch the 2nd seed in the playoffs and with a win for Poznan it would help their chances in making the playoffs. The emotions were riding high on this game and it showed early it was certainly a defensive affair. The first half both teams played almost an equal match a bit sloppy but we were able to take a 1-point lead into halftime 36-35.

In the second half the game really didn’t pick up it’s scoring from both teams but the energy in the arena was electric for us. Poznan really made some key plays down the stretch and we needed to respond. Down 2 points with 20 seconds left in a scrambled play the ball ends up in my hands at the top of the key with two options shoot the 3 for the win or drive and dish for the an easier lay-up? So I drove the lane and dished it off to David Jackson for a high-powered one-hand slam-dunk to tie the game and send it into overtime! In the first overtime we traded baskets but Poznan again took the lead on a big 3-point shot by Sasa Ocokolijic. Down 67-64 with about 20 seconds left I come down off a side line screen and roll and let it fly and it hits nothing but net to send the game into double overtime! No team wanted to lose this game! In the 2nd overtime we took a commanding lead thanks to finding our 3-point stroke the Silent Assassin Marko Brkic connected on two 3-points and I also connected on two 3-points to ice the game.

Poznan was led by Piotr Stelmach who finished with 20 points and 9 rebounds, Damian Kulig with 10 points, and Grzegorz Surmacz with 9 points and 7 rebounds.

Turow was led by Robert Tomaszek with 12 points and 7 rebounds, Michal Gabinski with 3 points and 13 rebounds, David Jackson 12 points and 5 rebounds, Michael Kuebler with 11 points of instant offense off the bench, and myself with 22 points 10 assists, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds.

The Arena was rocking from the tip off to the final Buzzers!! Everyone was on his or her feet and it was extremely loud! The crowd has been great all season and they really give us an extra boost when they are into the game like this. Thanks for helping us secure the 2nd seed going into playoffs that means we have home court advantage for the first round games! One big game left at Sopot next week then the playoffs! Lets go Turow!

Gameday Round up #14 – Turow at Prokom

The Clash for 1st place in the PLK was between Turow and Prokom. This was a huge game for both teams winning this game would mean 1st place position solely with only two games left in the regular season.

The atmosphere was like a playoff game both teams knew the significance of the game and both teams battled from the tip off to the final buzzer. The score was close throughout the entire game.

We jumped out to an early 1st quarter lead 20-11 but Prokom was able to close that gap 34-30 going into halftime. The first half was filled with defense and scrappy play. The second half was similar to the first half in which every basket was earned. The crowd was really into the game. At the end of the third quarter both teams were knotted at 52.

In the fourth quarter the scoring increased a little bit both teams were trading baskets this game went down to the wire! The last 15 seconds of the game is where the game was won 4 possessions 2 for each team. Filip Videnow scores a basket from the side out of bounds play that puts Prokom ahead 71-70. A nicely designed pick and roll play by our coach led to a drive by myself and a dish to Michal Gabinski for the 72-71 go ahead score with 8 seconds left. Prokom with the ball with another side out of bounds Tommy Adams drives right down the lane for a layup that hit the rim three times then falls in. Now its 4 seconds left and we have the ball side out of bounds with one last chance for the win down 73-72 and we could not capitalize and that’s how the game finished.

Prokom was led by Daniel Ewing 15 points, Ratko Varda 11 points and 7 rebounds, Robert Witka 11 points, Tommy Adams with 10 points including the game winning lay-up.

Konrad Wysoski with 15 points and 6 rebounds, Ivan Zigeranovic with 12 points, and myself with 10 points 5 rebounds, and 7 assists led Turow.

This was a tough loss but we fought all the way until the end and we can take many positives from this game.
